About

Biography

I’m old enough now that I have to do a quick mental calculation to figure it out; last time that I tried, I was thirty-two. I was born in Cronulla, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, and have lived most of my adult life in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. Other places I’ve lived include Cronulla, Waterloo, Montréal and Ottawa (Canada), Lausanne (Switzerland) and Bangladesh. I work as a transportation planner after completing a Masters in Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto, but my other degrees are in Computer Engineering and Computer Science (graphics) from Waterloo and UBC. I worked for several years on software for the film industry at Side Effects Software, and did internships at Alias | Wavefront, Discreet (now both owned by Autodesk). I went to Danforth C.T.I. in Toronto for high school, where I wrote one of the popular early 90s Tetris games, attended the Shad summer program at UBC in 1995, and worked on the SUMS project at the McLuhan Institute for Culture and Technology.

Contact

I use Google’s mail system (gmail), and my user name is drpritch. You can figure out my e-mail from that, I believe, but the spambots out there may have more difficulty. And for posterity, R is my middle initial, and that was my first university e-mail name – it’s not “doctor pritch.”
